Welcome to your life

okay, okay, I know that i have taken a bit of a break in blogging; BUT, not only have I been rather busy over the past couple of days, I also had a few technical difficulties….. to make a long story short, I got a new iPad and i had forgotten my password to wordpress and yes, it was just a bit disastrous. Please forgive me!
So whats new with me you ask? Well, I’ll tell you! So yesterday I had my college induction- try and guess what I’m studying? Yup you got it: Acting. I had so much fun and am totally pumped for starting on Monday. If you know me personally, and I not yet told you, I was initially meant to be going to university to study Drama, but the uni never told me or the school that they had changed their entrance requirements and therefore, i would never have met the condition that they had secretly given me- it was physically impossible! I would be lying if I said i that I wasn’t disappointed but after yesterday, I am so excited for college and this is going to be an amazing 2 years: great course and some amazing people on the course- I’ve even made some friends already! And I don’t make friends that easily- people think I can be a bit too passionate about acting and the theatre, but everyone else at college is the exact same, which is FANTASTIC.
A huge part of my course is reading about 4-7 scripts in a week, which means that after a while, I will start to forget what I’ve read and what the plays are about, so I was thinking that I would use my blog to help: so I was thinking of starting like a series on here, and reviewing the plays as i read them!! Nerdy, I know but it would definitely help me!!!
Something that I’m so excited for is this script writing group at college that is run by GREGORY BURKE! Now for those of you who don’t know who he is, he is a very famous Scottish Play-write who wrote plays such as Gagarin Way and the Black Watch…. SOOOOOO EXCITED

Go Big Or Go Home

Sense Of Self ™

The title for this post is also the title of a book written by Kat Von D. After reading Karren Brady’s book “Strong Woman” I felt really inspired not only in terms of business but as a human being. I turned 17 yesterday and actually, 17 is my lucky number and always has been so here’s hoping this year is going to be the best one yet.
But yes.
Kat Von D.
I’m on page 72 of her book and I’m developing a new reason to love her. I’ve always admired her artistic brilliance and her strong attitude, in fact for my birthday last year I was given a funky photoframe which I actually put a picture of Kat Von D in. Yeah so anyway, her tough exterior is just a façade! Everybody hides their insecurities to some degree and I just want to share a quote from page 60-

Today, I have relived one of my all time favourite films, My Fair Lady. Up until now I had always thought of it as nothing more than a happy, cute musical… but watching it back, years after the last time I saw it, I now properly understand why its such a timeless classic that can appeal to all generations. For someone like myself who likes pieces with a lot of depth, it is the perfect choice. Now, I could sit here and write a review about the film(which is not what I’m wanting to do), I want to talk about the star of the film, Audrey Hepburn.  I know it is a very unoriginal topic, but I feel that I need to put my own stamp on it:
People have always been raving about how beautiful and talented Audrey Hepburn was; don’t get me wrong, I have always known that she was one of the most beautiful actresses ever, but only now am I realising just how incredible an actress she really was. If you watch one of her films- any of them- you(well, I certainly do) will find yourself completely captivated by her.  Now, I have been reading this book called, The Stanislavsky Toolkit, and it talks about your body and emotions being completely in sync with your psyche; Audrey completely embodies this technique. But what I find truly intriguing is how she never actually trained to be an actor, she had trained to be a ballet dancer, which can only mean that naturally she was capable of performing at such a level that many people train for years to achieve. Frankly, I find this to be quite inspiring as we are all destined to do something brilliant- just as Audrey was destined to be a phenomenal actress.

Dear Actors who hate musicals

You love the theatre: the opera is fabulous; the ballet, exhilarating; plays are just breathtaking- yet musicals make you cringe. Why? I don’t understand! Musicals are the love child of the above mediums; yet the majority of performers(excluding musical theatre actors obviously) despise musicals, thinking they are stupid and unnatural.  Um, hello, theatre is SUPPOSED to be unnatural! That’s the whole point, to transport us to a world that is not quite our own, is it not? I mean, in my opinion, there is nothing better than a good musical: The King and I makes you feel so happy and smiley, The Phantom of the Opera makes you cry and leaves you with the hairs on the back of your neck upstanding and Rent is just such so eye opening to how scary the real world is!
Honestly, I think that the reason so many people hate them so much is because they are just bitter of the fact that they are in capable of being in a musical without making a fool of themselves! So, I say, instead of hating on my most favourite thing in the universe, lets all just calm ourselves down, have a seat and enjoy the wonders of musical theatre.

a new beginning

1376515736610One of the things that I’ve learned in pursuing a career in the acting industry, is that you are not one of a kind- there are lots of other aspiring performers who are just like you: same height, same age, same hair, same acting ability…. Frankly it’s soul destroying.  I mean, the core of acting, the reason we do it is because its beautiful, poetic and fulfilling; yet we allow it to destroy us. Why do we do that? And more importantly, why as actors, do we all hate each other? I mean we all have something pivotal in common, but that shared love is what makes us despise one another. Do you see people hating on others for loving to bake cupcakes? Hell no! Fellow cupcake bakers swap recipes and make lots delicious cakes! So I propose that as actors we should do the same. No, I don’t mean that we should make cakes, but we should love each other for having this incredible bond! Therefore I suggest that we should work together instead of against each other- helping each other find characters that we a perfect for. Characters that we feel have been written for us! For me its Moritz from the play “spring awakening”. I just see so much of myself in him, his complete vulnerability to others, never feeling good enough- but Instead of wallowing over these, I am using these genuine feelings that I share with him to enhance my portrayal of him…..

And no, don’t get your hopes up, not all of my posts will be so Inspiring but It’s a start!
